Hi Friend!
“If only I would stop getting interrupted, maybe this would be done by now.”
We all have said this or something similar at one time or another.
- You wanted to go on that cruise to Alaska, but your mom got sick.
- You planned to drink your morning coffee in peace, but the dog ran off.
- You started a new tv series and have looked forward to watching it all day, but your spouse is wanting to chat.
- You started to fold that laundry an hour ago, but…. enter whatever interruption happened.
And if you have kids you are constantly saying “I went to do this, but so and so needed this and that.”
Our lives are full of interruptions. All day no matter what season of life you’re in. You can probably think of at least 5 times you were interrupted today a lone if not more.
BUT GUESS WHAT?
JESUS WAS INTERRUPTED.
Jesus was in the middle of preaching in a room so packed full that some people had lowered their friend through the ceiling to get to Him for healing. Jesus stopped what He was doing and helped the man.(Mark 2:1-12)
Ever wanted a little privacy? Tonight a lone, I was trying to get in the shower before I was even able to undress the kids knocked on the door 3 times! I totally get wanting some time to my self, but so did Jesus. Mark 7, He wanted to keep where He was staying a secret. Can you blame Him? People were following Him around constantly.
But He was interrupted and that night He drove a demon out of this woman’s child.
Have you ever been talking about something really important to you and someone interrupts you? We see in Luke 22:24-27 these grown men were arguing about who was the greatest, while Jesus was trying to tell them He was gonna die. *face palm emoji*
These above are just a few of the times Jesus was interrupted, I encourage you to take some time to read over these passages.
The point is, Jesus was interrupted in times that He was resting, traveling and working. One thing about Jesus He didn’t huff in frustration, He didn’t scream out or have a bad attitude. Jesus in great humility realized what ever need He was interrupted for was greater than His own. Jesus knew whatever He was doing when interrupted could be paused to fulfill the needs of those doing the interrupting.
- Your time with your mother is more important than that trip to Alaska.
- The coffee can be reheated.
- Good thing we have streaming services we can pick up where we left off later!
- Yep that laundry will be there after you get interrupted 100 times.
When interrupted stop and ask God to show you how to serve Him in these interruptions.
We must choose to realize that the needs of others are often times more important than whatever you were doing.
Here is the prayer I am saying:
God, I need you right now to calm my anxiousness as I am busy and being interrupted, please open my eyes and heart to see the need You need me to fulfill at this time. Amen.
Note: This is something I am actively working on. Please pray for me as I am putting this into practice.
